Do you offer free consultations?
Yes, I am happy to offer an initial 15 minute phone consultation at no charge. This gives you the opportunity to see if we are a good fit for each other and you can confidently take your first step towards creating change.

Counselling is not offered during this consult, it is only an initial meet and greet appointment. A formal counselling session can be booked following the consult.

What is a psychologist?
A psychologist in Alberta is someone who has at least Master level education in psychology and has completed the rigorous process of being registered with the College of Alberta Psychologist. The level of training and supervised practice is what is different from other mental health providers.
Is horse experience required for equine therapy work?
All of the equine therapy work takes place on the ground at Shooting Star Psychology. No prior horse experience is required for equine therapy. Riding is not part of the equine therapy sessions at Shooting Star Psychology.
Are my sessions confidential?
Yes, the sessions are kept confidential except under certain circumstances. The limits to confidentiality include:

  1. Risk of harm to yourself or others.
  2. Neglect or abuse of a minor, child or dependent adult.
  3. Subpoena by courts.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are 50 mins in length.
What is the cost?
At Shooting Star Psychology we follow the fee schedule recommended by the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta. The fee for individual sessions is $190/hour. For individuals with insurance coverage we provide direct billing for the following providers: Homewood Health, Greenshield and Blue Cross. Note: We provide a sliding scale (fee range from $100-190 per hour) if the individual qualifies as either low-income or has no insurance coverage. Please call for more information.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
Appointments are available Mondays and Tuesdays. The last appointment during the day is 4pm. Friday appointments may be arranged.
